IMA New Directions
Research Professorship

in connection with the 2010-2011 thematic program:
Simulating Our Complex World: Modeling, Computation and Analysis

IMA NEW DIRECTIONS RESEARCH PROFESSORSHIPS provide an extraordinary opportunity for established mathematicians—typically mid-career faculty at US universities—to branch into new directions and increase the impact of their research by spending the 2010-2011 academic year immersed in the thematic program at the IMA. Research Professors will enjoy an excellent research environment and stimulating scientific program at the interface of Simulating Our Complex World: Modeling, Computation and Analysis. New Directions Research Professors are expected to be resident and active participants in the program but are not assigned formal duties. The New Directions program will supply 50% of academic year salary up to $50,000 maximum. Applications must include a letter from the applicant's department chair indicating that the home institution will provide a minimum of 50% of academic year salary and 100% of health and other relevant fringe benefits.

Deadline for Application is January 16th, 2010.

You need to submit the following files together with the application form:

Curriculum vitae including list of publications.
A statement of a few pages describing the applicant's mathematical background and accomplishments, their interest and research plans in relation to the thematic year, the exact period of the visit, and level of funding requested. The statement should address plans to build upon the IMA experience, including broader impacts such as teaching and curriculum development.
In addition to this application form, the following items must be received by the IMA at the address above by January 16, 2010.

* The applicant's institution must commit to providing a minimum of 50% of academic year salary and all health and other relevant fringe benefit should the Research Professorship be granted. A letter from the department chair at the home institution indicating that the home institution will provide this support is required.

* One or more letters of recommendation sent directly to the IMA.

IMA support, in the form of a subcontract to the home institution, will be for up to 50% of 2010-2011 salary with a maximum of $50,000 for the entire 9-12 month visit. Approximate dollar amount of IMA support requested:
