Other Services

Refrigerator and Microwave: A refrigerator and microwave are located in the North Wing of 400 Lind Hall for visitor use. We make a community effort at the IMA to keep the microwave, refrigerator, and surrounding area clean.

Trash: The custodians do not empty your individual trash containers/waste baskets. Please empty your trash into one of the large trash bins located on your floor. Trash liners will be available. Please ask an IMA staff member in 114 Lind Hall for additional bags if needed.

Recycling: The IMA is recycling paper (stationary, photocopies, even stapled materials). There are recycling boxes in every office and near laser printers. The custodians do not empty the recycling boxes in the offices. Please empty your recycling box into one of the large recycling bins located on your floor.

The U card is a University of Minnesota I.D. Card, which provides access to University libraries, University Recreational Sport Center, computer labs, other facilities, and also offers a variety of services.

All postdocs and long-term visitors who will be in residence 3 months or longer should obtain a U Card. If you are on the payroll, you can go directly to the U Card office to obtain your card. You will need to bring a picture ID (drivers license or passport) with you. If you are not on the payroll, Holly Pinkerton, 114 Lind Hall can complete an on-line application form for you to obtain the U Card. The U Card office is located at room G22, on the lower level of Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Avenue SE. Office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. You may want to call 612-626-9900 (6-9900 if you are calling on campus) to make sure all of your information is in the system before you go.

Libraries: The University of Minnesota library homepage is http://www.lib.umn.edu/. You will need a bar-coded University of Minnesota U-card or a temporary pass to check out materials from the University of Minnesota libraries. For a temporary pass, obtain a letter from the IMA staff in 114 Lind Hall and bring it to the Math Library, located in 310 Vincent Hall. No keys are given out for the Math Library. Other major Library locations are Walter Library (East Bank), the Science and Engineering Library (Walter Library), and Wilson Library (West Bank). General Information and Reference: 612-626-2227.

University of Minnesota Recreational Sports Facilities: http://www.recsports.umn.edu/. There is a fee for using the facilities. If you do not have a University of Minnesota ID card, please see a staff member in 114 Lind Hall to receive a letter for temporary recreational facility use. Spouses of IMA visitors can also obtain passes to the Rec Sports Center.
