In this talk I will discuss an evolutionary mathematical model of carcinogenesis in the oral cavity. Data from the NCI's SEER(Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results) program is used to parametrize and calibrate the model. Our model provides a mechanistic explanation for some observed population-level recurrence patterns, and may suggest alternative age-stratified treatment strategies.
