The inverse photoacoustic tomography (PAT) problem consists in the recovery of an initial internal source from a single boundary observation of ultrasound waves. This inverse problem arises as one of the two steps of the hybrid imaging modality of the same name, whose ultimate goal is the determination of optical properties of the media from the acoustic measurements.
